Kaliningrad can enter the New Silk Road

The Kaliningrad Commercial Sea Port is to be built into the New Silk Road. This was announced by the regional governor Anton Alikhanov.

“The port has plans, investments, cargo handling volumes are growing. But one of the most important tasks for the company now is to integrate the “New Silk Road” project into the project. Kaliningrad will be more convenient, cheaper and faster in terms of transit of goods from Asia. We will use the competitive advantage of our port “, – the press service of the government of the region cites Alikhanova.

The region has proved the possibility of full participation in the New Silk Road project by implementing a project to organize the transportation of goods from Europe to China, with an overload on the Russian side. It was implemented with JSC “United Transport and Logistics Company”.

The throughput capacity of the Kaliningrad Commercial Sea Port is 6.8 million tons per year of various cargoes including liquid, dry, container. Among the directions of investment activity, the main priorities are capital investments in reloading equipment, construction of warehouse areas and production infrastructure facilities.

Over the last decade the port has fulfilled a significant part of the works provided by the container terminal development project: two berths, a container picking warehouse, nearly four kilometers of access railways, and specialized container loaders with carrying capacity up to 45 tons.

The new silk road is the concept of a new transportation system promoted by China in cooperation with Kazakhstan, Russia and other countries. The idea is based on the historical example of the ancient Great Silk Road. The modern route is an important part of China’s development strategy. According to the plans, he should build the most convenient and fast transit routes through the center of Eurasia. And also to strengthen economic development of the internal regions of China and neighboring countries, as well as create new markets for Chinese goods.
