Volume of China-Kazakhstan-Europe rail freight transport expected to increase by 23% in 2016

In the first seven months of 2016, the volume of China-Kazakhstan-Europe rail freight transport reached 4.4 million tons and is expected to record 9 million tons by the end, a 23% increase y.o.y.

According to Kazakhstan Railways there is positive dynamic of container traffic’s growth. 554 container trains serviced China – Europe – China via Kazakhstan route in the seven months of this year, growing nearly 2.5- fold compared to the same period in 2015.

China and Kazakhstan plan to increase cargo flows by improving the quality of services and by organizing new transport services on China – Kazakhstan – Central Asia.

The two countries aim to increase the volume of China-Kazakhstan-Europe rail freight transport  to 11.5 million tons in 2017.

RZD to invest RUB 168 bn next year in developing BAM and Trans-Siberian Railway

Russian Railways (RZD) plans to invest RUB 168 billion (EUR 2.3 bn) in the development of Baikal-Amur and Trans-Siberian railways next year, stated Alexander Misharin, First Vice-President of Russian Railways, at the 2nd Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.

“For this project RUB 111 billion are invested this year and RUB 168 billion next year”, he said.

The total costs of the project reach RUB 542 billion and will be carried out as a public-private partnership, which will include the modernisation of 90 railway stations and almost 5000 km of railway lines. As a result of this investment, the transport capacity of the lines could be increased with 60 million tons of freight.

The development of Baikal-Amur and Trans-Siberian Railway is on RZD’s list of priority projects for 2017, according to Valentin Gapanovich, Senior Vice-President of Russian Railways, cited by Interfax.
